"It's not just Facebook & Twitter..."
In the summer of 2009, Rachel approached a friend and business partner to help her launch a blog. Holding a degree in Journalism from Columbia College Chicago along with a general curiosity about new technologies and innovations, Rachel wanted to see what this land of social media had to offer. She was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was indeed a great deal. With a lot of hard work, trial and error, and her good friend's assistance, Rachel built up her blog to the point of having it be listed by Forbes as one of the top 20 blogs to follow by professional women - not to mention Rachel developed an obsession with using social media in business strategies. Approaching the fall of that same year, Rachel came across the following tweet: "Do you love fashion? Do you know social media? Are you looking for a job?". About a month later, Rachel was working for Sears Holdings Corporation managing social media strategy for its fashion and apparel businesses. As we go further ahead in time, Rachel and her friend got together once again to discuss collaborating on social media projects for some of his clients. One thing she pointed out was if she represented him as a consultant, she should do some social media work for his company as well. To that statement he replied, "Well it's interesting you bring that up, because I wanted to see if you'd be interested in working for us full time." We now arrive at the present (and come full circle), to say that Rachel is happily working as Marketing Director | Social Media for good friend and business partner, Astek Consulting.
