Activating An iPhone 5s With AT&T
Humor me before I write about activating your AT&T iPhone 5s. First things first:
There’s nothing more exciting than opening an Apple product. There’s something about the way the box slides open with just enough friction to make that soft but distinctive sound. It’s whispering, “You’re going to like this. this. this. this...” until it comes apart and you see the phone shining like a (black, white or gold) pearl in an oyster. It comes charged and ready to go. You’re ready because a few days earlier you received an email that looked like this:
When you click on the link, you’ll be brought here to choose which device to activate:
I had no idea what a ICCID or IMEI number meant. When you click on “What is this” to find out where to get the requested numbers, AT&T tells you this:
Removing the back cover is unnecessary…
Even if you could find a screwdriver that fits the screw holding it together (and you can’t), there’s no reason to do it. You can simply get the needed IMEI and ICCID numbers in the following way:
- Turn on your iPhone
- Go to Settings -> General -> About
- Scroll down
- Activate your iPhone 5s by entering the IMEI and ICCID numbers in the website fields as shown above
If AT&T’s activation process fails…
…simply call AT&T at 1-800-331-0500. I was on the phone for no more than 5 minutes and the process took another 5 minutes.
